Rates

Fees depend on the nature of the text to be indexed (density of information, the content of the text, length, required length of index etc.), and so are best negotiated on a project-by-project basis.

A quote can be provided on receipt of a representative sample of the text (e.g. a sample chapter). As a guide, the Society of Indexers (as of 1st January 2014) recommends rates of £23 an hour, £2.55 a page or £6.95 per 1,000 words, for a non-specialist text.

Rates for more involved or technical material may be higher to reflect the additional difficulty and time necessary to index documents of this nature.
